Professor Oulmaati: “The ministry responded favorably to all the demands of medical students”

Medical students persist and sign to boycott exam sessions. And this, despite the various proposals made by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation. Moreover, Professor Abdallah Oulmaati, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tangier, tells us, the supervisory department “interacted favorably with all the demands framed by law” raised by the students. As for pedagogical points, they fall within the responsibilities of teachers, he wishes to emphasize. Likewise, our interlocutor insists, the various mediations have resulted in proposals to resolve the situation, but the students continue to stick to their positions.

Now, the faculties are open and studies are taking place as normal for new registrants, and the same is true for the pharmacy sector exams, as well as the exceptional session for the medicine sector, notes the dean. As for the reform process initiated, Professor Oulmaati recalls that the ministry involved all the actors concerned by this sector. The objective being to “achieve a reform aimed at the quality of medical studies in Morocco”. However, faced with this situation, the professor wonders if all the actors involved in this reform dynamic are in the wrong.

It should also be noted that since the outbreak of this crisis, the government, through the supervisory ministry, has continued to reach out to the “boycotters”. Moreover, parliamentary mediation having been unable to convince the students to return to their faculties, the Mediator of the Kingdom entered the line to try to find common ground between the protagonists. And e, at a time when we are talking about “new proposals” to get out of the tunnel.

Still, the students make it a point of honor to continue their “protest movement” of which we do not really know either the motives or the real motivations, even less the objectives of the leaders of the revolt. But one thing is certain, the students seem determined to reduce the duration of studies from seven to six, indicating that this is the main sticking point which prevents the conclusion of an agreement between the parties.
