“Mr. Big”: this is how the police gained the guard’s trust

The architect of the “Mr. Big” investigation deployed around a Quebec guard accused of involuntary homicide explained how the police wove their web, offering a rare foray into this type of complex investigation.

Diana Torres-Acosta is undergoing trial at the Quebec courthouse for the involuntary homicide of a 13-month-old girl who died in July 2019.

The agent who played the role of director in the undercover investigation described the 23 scenarios that led to the suspect’s confession in March 2020. In this type of specialized investigation, this police officer is called the roofer.

Fictional company

The “roofer” described how a fake company created by the police made the 42-year-old woman and her partner work for almost two months.

The agent explained the different tasks that the couple was asked to carry out on behalf of the fictitious company.

It was first the spouse of Diana Torres-Acosta who responded to the job offer. He was then put in contact with the undercover agent (AI) whom the witness designates by his code.

This is how AI-1104 began to rub shoulders with the Oscar subjectthe sitter’s spouse, to make deliveries of household appliances, for example.

During the fourth scenario, Oscar emphasizes to the undercover agent that his partner also wants to work for the company.

The fifth scenario will therefore boil down to the job interview conducted by the undercover agent AI-1703, who will obviously hire Diana Torres-Acosta.

The two undercover agents, who say they are a couple, therefore work in parallel with Oscar and Diana Torres-Acosta.

The latter is required to carry out various administrative tasks with AI-1703 for the pseudo-company, while Oscar delivers from Beauce to Saguenay, via Baie-Saint-Paul, with AI-1104.

The two couples bond, and even meet up to share meals.

Spa and nude dancers

The roofing agent plans what he calls reward activities. When work is finished, we will socialize and get to know each other and relaxexplains the roofing agent, whose identity is protected.

This is how undercover agent 1703 will invite the accused to the spa, or even for a manicure. In the case of Oscar, he will be entitled to two outings in a famous strip bar in Montreal, while his work leads him to spend the night in the metropolis with the AI-1104.

Every time, undercover agents pay for these outings rewards. The accused and her spouse received $25/hour to work for the fictitious company.

The undercover investigation will culminate until the 23rde and last scenario, March 23, 2020.

Huge staging

It’s a huge set-uptestifies the roofing agent about the final scenario consisting of putting heat on the two suspects, separately.

While the two undercover agents are on the move with their subjectthe two vehicles were intercepted almost simultaneously.

The investigation teams which carry out the interceptions then indicate to the Oscar subject and at subject Diana that they are the only two suspects in the homicide.

The undercover agents who have gained the trust of the two suspects will suggest that they meet the boss of the company who will certainly be able to help them.

Confessions filmed

These meetings, filmed, took place in a room at the Hôtel Must in Quebec. Diana Torres-Acosta’s confession led to her indictment for the manslaughter of the girl, who was allegedly shaken violently.

Her partner Oscar does not face any charges.

The roofing agent was never in contact with the accused and her spouse. The undercover agents who worked with them as part of the operation will testify in the coming days, while the video of the final scenario should be presented to judge Rachel Gagnon.

The latter will subsequently have to decide whether or not the confessions of the accused in the context of the undercover investigation are admissible as evidence.
