As part of the launch of the Science Festival, four young researchers were awarded the “Young Research Prize” and received at City Hall.

Marine Mondino, William De Rezende Locatel and Anne-Céline Callens. The three winners of the Young Research Prize were received at Lyon City Hall this Tuesday evening, as part of the metropolitan and departmental launch of the 2024 Science Festival. Three projects, selected from 40 applications, and also accompanied by Sarah Souheil Gebai’s “favorite” project. This competition is supported by the Metropolis and the City of Lyon, in partnership with the ComUE University of Lyon. Each of the winners receives the sum of 5,000 euros.

With the Young Research Prize, we firstly want to reward excellence in terms of scientific production on our territory.notes in a press release Jean-Michel Longueval, metropolitan vice-president, delegate for higher education and research. Each year, the number of candidates shows us to what extent our Universities, our Grandes Écoles and our research organizations as well as the CNRS are rich in talents which produce remarkable work, praised internationally.“. Chloë Vidal, deputy mayor of Lyon responsible for research, among others, continues: “It is also a way of bringing to the attention of all their scientific work.. And so, to participate in the development of public intelligence in science“.

A competition to “inspire younger generations”

Marinne Mondino, 35, won the “Health and Life Sciences Prize”, thanks to her work on cognitive processes. For her part, Wilima De Rezende Locateal, 31, was awarded the “Exact Sciences Prize” for her work on the conversion of biomass to produce bio-oils. And finally, Anne-Céline Callens, 35, won the “Human and Social Sciences Prize”. She develops research in visual studies and in particular on the valorization of unexploited heritage funds.

A “Favorite Prize” was also awarded by the jury. It goes to Sarah Souheil Gebai, 32 years old. She is currently carrying out a business creation project, after having studied the possibility of controlling tremor in the fingers using corded mass shock absorbers. “Promoting the commitment and successes of young researchers both highlights exceptional work and inspires younger generations.“, concludes Nathalie Dominer, president of the ComUE University of Lyon.
