Technical Analysis of a Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter

The SeFlow 400 is a portable flow meter designed to measure flow rates in drinking water and wastewater networks. It offers precise and stable bidirectional flow measurement over the long term. Thanks to its contactless external measurement technology, it allows water distribution to continue while taking measurements. This flow meter is particularly intended for detecting water leaks, checking existing flow meters and recording data.

The SeFlow 400 uses ultrasonic probes attached to the pipe to measure flow. The electronics adjust the distance between the sensors according to the characteristics of the pipe and the fluid. An ultrasonic pulse is sent in the direction of flow and another in the opposite direction. The sensors alternate between transmitter and receiver. The transit time of the signals differs depending on the direction, and this time difference is used to calculate the flow speed. The flow rate is obtained by combining this speed with the pipe section.

The SeFlow 400 is used to measure consumption profiles in drinking water distribution networks as well as to detect leaks and measure night-time flow rates. It is used to check the accuracy of fixed meters and to monitor pumping tests. This tool is essential for water network maintenance and monitoring services, facilitating the assessment and optimization of water supply systems.
