Fatal work accident in Saint-Gervais

MISCELLANEOUS FACTS. A 30-year-old worker lost his life this Tuesday, October 8 following a work accident on the 2nd Rang Est, in Saint-Gervais.

According to Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, the worker was working on a road construction site. Seriously injured, he was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators from the SQ and the CNESST went to the site to discover the causes and circumstances of this work accident and the man’s death.

At the CNESST, the communications manager, Rébéca Gautron, stressed at the end of the day Tuesday that investigators had gone to the site in order to secure the site and collect information on the circumstances of the accident. However, according to her, it was too early to comment on the causes of this.

However, it appears, according to new comments from the CNESST reported by various media, that work to repair a culvert was underway on the site where the accident occurred and that a concrete block would have crushed the worker.

A security perimeter was established and the 2nd Rang Est was still closed in the area, Wednesday morning, a bypass having been established for motorists.
