Jane Birkin has been dead since July 16, 2023. Her home, meanwhile, continues its story and was sold to a famous novelist.

A second life for Jane Birkin’s mansion. The Breton house so dear to Jane Birkin’s heart has found a buyer more than a year after the actress’s death. Indeed, it was last July that it reportedly found its new owner and a deed of sale was signed. This sumptuous 460 square meter mansion also has 6,000 meters of garden in addition to private and direct access to the shore. The real sale price of the house remains unknown for the time being even if the mansion had been listed at the price of 1,890,000 euros. This waterfront life project would then have seduced a buyer known to the general public as announced by “Le Télégramme”.

This residence overlooking the sea was the living environment of Jane Birkin and her family for 30 years. Named “Kachalou” in reference to her daughters, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, the house was taken over by the famous novelist Aurélie Valognes.

Who is Aurélie Valognes?

Aurélie Valognes is a renowned 41-year-old novelist who until now lived in Dinard. The latter, who began writing in Italy, is known for her works such as “Mémé dans les orties” or “Au petit bonheur la chance”. Aurélie Valognes is in the habit of publishing one book per year. If each of these quickly ranks among the bestsellers, the artist does not intend to dissociate this real estate acquisition from her profession. Indeed, the latter would like to make this manor a “house of writers”.

On this subject, the real estate agent in charge of this exceptional file, Olivier Lintanf, explains to “Le Figaro”: “Aurélie Valognes chose this place for its calm and tranquility, it is a space conducive to creation and contemplation. We can establish a parallel between an author in cinema and an artist in writing. The objective is to perpetuate creativity in Kachalou.” Indeed, this mansion of no less than 14 rooms including 9 rooms with sea views had already appeared in feature films in which Jane Birkin played.
