Four artisans at the crafts day

Four artisans at the crafts day

Sunday April 7th was celebrated as Crafts Day. In our corner of the Lot, four craftsmen decided to come together at one of them. It is the vast workshop (150m2) called “La volute”, of artistic ironworker Benoît Brocard (specialized in the building sector) which was chosen as the exhibition venue; this building, which the owner built himself (with the help of friends anyway) has the particularity of being made of straw (provided by the neighboring Origan farm). Completed in 2019, it is highly appreciated for its thermal and sound insulation. Located in the hamlet of Charoux, it welcomed, in addition to the owner (self-employed since 2004), the cabinetmaker/carpenter Jean Berson based in Grézels, Marie Jeanne Vuillermé leatherworker, also residing near the town center of Belaye, and finally Vincent Rouquié stone and heritage renovator who succeeded his father in this specialty and who lives in Sauzet. Many visitors went to this very rural place and they were able to admire the achievements of each of the artisans; the ironworker, the best placed of course, had us admire an artistic metal staircase and a bay window support also made of metal; the leatherworker, formerly from Hermès, exhibited belts, wallets and other leather objects, the cabinetmaker demonstrated to curious visitors how one could plane with an old planer; as for the stonemason specializing in heritage renovation, he was content to exhibit visuals. The success of the event convinced the artisans to continue it in 2025.
