From Friday May 3 to Sunday May 5, the city of Sète is organizing its first amateur theater festival at the Manitas de Plata conservatory.

Almost ten years after the end of Act III Scene 7 – which was held in Sète from 1999 to 2015 – amateur theater will find a festival dedicated to it, all weekend, within the renowned conservatory intercommunal Manitas de Plata. At the end of a selection phase, four groups are invited to perform on stage with, in their sights, an interpretation prize and a Grand Prize which will open the doors of the prestigious Molière theater to its winner.   • Friday May 3: The baluff’s open the ball

This Friday, May 3 at 8:30 p.m., it is the actors of the Cie agathoise Les Baluff’s who will open this first edition of the festival with My Shed, a comedy by Paul Egiziano directed by Marie-Jo Ala. Where the setbacks of an owner of a seaside cabin, threatened with eviction in the 1960s.

  • Saturday May 4: double dose of theater with Les Sauveuses and Les Passants

Saturday May 4, double dose of theater at the conservatory. At 2:30 p.m., the eight young actors from the Les Sauveuses troupe, from the Ah Bon theater school located in the Thau basin, offer A trash can to save the worlda creation by Thomas Andro.

In the evening (8:30 p.m.), place at King Victor by Louis Calaferte, carried by the Cie Les Passants and directed by Frank Buissière. The story of a father who became king, with a satirical comedy background.

  • Sunday May 5: the folding seat is closed

With more than 35 plays to its credit, the Pounais company created in 1987 has established itself as a major player in amateur theater in Hérault. On the occasion of the festival, she invites you to discover Wind in the branches of Sassafras, by René de Obaldia, directed by Amélie Zaroukian. Head to the 19th century and Kentucky, into the daily life of a family of settlers in the heart of Indian territory.

The composition of the jury and the different prizes

For this first edition, the director of the Molière theater, Sandrine Mini, was chosen as president of the jury. She will be accompanied by Aurélie Pothon (director of Culture at the City of Sète), Ginès Abellan (president of the FNCTA34), the actors Michaël Clément and Luc Sidobre, and the assistant for Cultural Education Claude Muslin. “We wanted to pay tribute to popular theater, dear to Vilar, but also to highlight all the quality of our so-called “amateur” theater troupes, but which do not really have it”, confides the chosen one. Two awards are at stake. The interpretation prize, but above all the Grand Jury Prize. The prize is a trophy signed by Carolyn Wittendal (Microclimax) and a place in the next season of the Théâtre Molière.
