Former Twitch employee explains why Dr Disrespect was banned

After the well-known Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect signed a multi-million dollar exclusive contract with the streaming platform Twitch in March 2020, he was unexpectedly banned from the platform in June 2020. The ban was apparently not just short-term, but permanent. At least Dr Disrespect has not returned to the platform to date – instead, he streams successfully on YouTube.

Serious accusation

The reasons for the ban are still unknown: There is no official explanation. At the time, the streamer only suggested that the exclusive contract may have become too expensive for Twitch. Now, four years after the ban, a former Twitch employee is making a harsh accusation. According to Cody Conners, who was working for the company at the time as Account Director for Strategic Partnerships, “he” – apparently Dr Disrespect – was banned because of a sexting incident with a minor via Twitch private chat. He is also said to have tried to meet her at TwitchCon.

Dr Disrespect responded negatively to the accusation: According to him, the issue of the ban is closed, no wrongdoing could be proven against him and Twitch has paid out the contract that was signed at the time. Cody Conners is partly agreed with, for example by another ex-Twitch employee named Zachary Diaz. But in the end it is one person’s word against another’s.

Despite repeated requests in the comments, Conners has not yet provided any evidence for his serious accusation on X. It is also unclear why the issue is only now coming to the fore again. It is conceivable that an NDA recently expired – four years after the ban. However, when reporting crimes, secrecy is likely to be void from the outset. What the actual reason for Dr Disrespect’s Twitch ban was therefore still unclear.
