“I was the devil’s child”: Michèle Bernier reveals how her father’s reputation affected her during her childhood

The actress notably revealed how the notoriety of her father Georget Bernier, better known under the pseudonym Professor Choron, impacted her childhood.

An essential figure in French comedy for several decades now. Michèle Bernier did not have an ordinary childhood. The one who is the headliner of the series called The Intern for already 10 years on 3 is in fact the daughter of Georget Bernier, alias Professor Choron. The latter is none other than one of the founders of the famous satirical newspapers Hara-Kiri et Charlie Hebdo. During his appearance on the show Seven to eightbroadcast on Sunday January 5, 2025 on TF1, Michèle Bernier was questioned about her illustrious father by Audrey Crespo-Mara. The actress notably described her father as being “a first class anarchist“, but also a man “without concession.

“He felt free and had a lot of trials. It was difficult”also pointed out the actress. Unfortunately for her, her father's reputation affected her childhood. “I was a bit of a devil's daughter. Sometimes my friends said to me: 'My parents don't want me to come to your house.' They must have thought there were naked women on the stairsbad words written everywhere… I must have been very dangerous!”, revealed Michèle Bernier. The actress then revealed a rather surprising anecdote about her parents' habits. “Humor has always been part of our lives. My father always told me: 'You know, there is no humor in any dictatorship.' (…) When they had parties, they took me. I only liked being with them. They took me to clubs, I was six years old!she said in particular.

Michèle Bernier also wanted to emphasize the fact that her parents “worked a lot, selling newspapers in the street, finding money”. Yet, I didn't feel abandonedassured the actress. “I understood that they had something to do”she then added. The death of her father in 2005, however, was quite difficult for the actress to deal with. “It almost paralyzed my vocal cords. I couldn't speak anymore.”she revealed. Twenty years earlier, Michèle Bernier had already lost her mother, Odile Vaudelle, who had decided to end her life. “When my mother left, it was another shock, it was violent. Suicide is always something violent, for those who remain, in any case.underlined the comedian in particular on this subject.
