MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — Get up close and personal with the abandoned Ramada hotel in Downtown Macon that is set to face implosion on New Year’s Day.

Check out the livestream to see the hotel before crews conduct the implosion to bring the building tumbling down at 9 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025.

The clock is ticking as the former 16-story hotel at 108 First Street in downtown Macon is set to go in with a bang.

The day after Christmas, crews could be seen working on some of the final steps in the deconstruction of the building, which was constructed in 1969 as a Hilton Hotel; one of the tallest structures in Macon-Bibb County.

Representatives with Target Contractors said during a forum last week that they’ll use a small number of explosives to weaken the structure, allowing gravity to do the rest of the work bringing the hotel tower to the ground.

Officials with Macon-Bibb County have established an exclusion zone where no one is allowed. Only authorized personnel are allowed in the exclusion zone from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Predicted wind patterns suggest any dust will likely move in a southeast direction due to forecasted northwesterly winds. The hotel has been vacant for over a decade.

The hotel closed its doors in 2011, according to WGXA News archives, after experiencing financial hardships in 2009.
