By midnight on January 1st, it will be too late. New beneficiaries of the energy check only have a few hours left to request it online for 2024, before the dedicated portal closes on December 31.
As a reminder, the value of this aid, which is used to pay for electricity, gas, firewood or fuel oil, varies between 48 and 277 euros depending on income and the size of the household. But since the abolition of the housing tax in 2023, the list of beneficiaries is no longer automatically updated. If a million French people now have to take the process themselves, many are unaware of it. “There really needs to be more transparency, more information. But all of this has not at all been made sufficiently clear to the general public,” comments in the report at the top of this article, Anna Creti, professor at Paris-Dauphine University and director of the Climate Economics Chair.
