Alain Delon was a lord of French cinema, figuratively but also literally, as he made his domain Douchy in the Loiret a fortress in his image, impregnable, immense and full of secrets. A property that he has acquired in 1971 when he was in a relationship with his dear and tender Mireille Darc, and which he transformed to make it a haven of peace far from the frenzy of his life as a star. His partner at the time greatly helped him to redevelop these places, thus destroying the castle in poor condition built under the First Empire.

The property has a beautiful, well-enclosed park of 52 hectares. In the well-documented book by Philippe Durant, Alain Delon – A French destiny (Editions Nouveau Monde), we learn that the Douchy estate often opened its doors, particularly for events for the elderly with film screenings in the beautiful projection room. However, there is a place where no one can come, “a slightly secluded office where only his dogs are allowed to accompany him“. Animals fed on beef bellies with whom he had a close relationship, which he buried in Douchy and with whom he rests, following his dearest wish.

Alain Delon and his many dogs

Regularly, Anthony Delon, Alain’s eldest son born from his marriage to Nathalie Delon, gives news of Loubothe actor’s last dog who accompanied him until his last breath on August 18. An animal which is part of a long canine lineage with which the star has established a long history and which he fed with diligence. “I could do without a lot of things. But my dogs, no. My dogs and the land my dogs live on, that’s my luxury“, he explained in The Official Men in 1988.

Four-legged companions who love him without being interested in his status, unlike humans. “They generally have all the qualities of man minus the faults“, he confided in Doggy in 2009. However, it should be noted that in Douchy there were two categories of dogs, those locked in cages, and those left free. Moreover, his son Anthony has special memories of this animal passion. Because if he is also very attached to the famous Loubo, he remains traumatized by the fact that his father forced him when he was younger to feed the fiercest ones in their enclosure to toughen him up… Pet or guard animal, all formed his pack for whom he had in any case total love, “pure and true“.
