The theft of the santon was discovered by Father Varis last Sunday, December 29, to the great surprise of the priest who spoke on social networks.
It was a very unpleasant surprise that ended the Christmas week in Embrun Cathedral. Sunday, December 29 in the evening, when the building dating from the 12th and 13th centuries had just closed its doors, Father Thibaud Varis noticed the disappearance of a santon in the crèche.
“Don't look for it any further, wrote on the social network Facebook. The santon of the questing angel was stolen at the end of the day from the crèche of Embrun cathedral. It was an integral part of the collection of santons of Embrun. So it’s every Embrun resident who is being robbed. Already stealing… but stealing from a church too!” denounces the clergyman.
“Lamentable”
His post warning of the theft sparked numerous reactions, including that of the mayor of Embrun, Chantal Eymeoud.
“Really lamentable”, wrote the councilor in response to the announcement of the theft.
Contacted by BFM DICI, the priest explains that no complaint has been filed, because “there is no way to investigate this”.
So we still have to hope for a little miracle at the start of the year and the return of the angel, perhaps at the same time as the arrival of the three wise men in the manger?
