Niels Hintermann must put an end to his 2024/2025 season. Victorious 3 times on the World Cup front, the 29-year-old from Zurich suffers from cancer of the lymph nodes, he announced during a press conference.
The illness was discovered last Tuesday during a session with his physiotherapist. Fortunately, it is only at an early stage.
Hintermann will soon undergo two cycles of chemotherapy, as well as 2 weeks of radiation. “All this will last three months. So the season is already over“, said the skier.
Optimism nonetheless
“The chances of recovery are very good. Everything is under control, even if it is a rare disease“, he said. The doctors are also optimistic about the continuation of his sporting career.
This is the second time in his career that Hintermann has had to miss an entire season. He did not compete in a single race in 2017/18 due to a shoulder injury.
During the last winter, the Zurich resident only finished 4 times in the top-10. But he saved his season by winning the Kvitfjell downhill.
