“You will be held accountable”… Rima Hassan cut live by BFMTV

“The interview ends”… This Tuesday evening, the tone rose sharply between LFI MEP, Rima Hassan and the BFMTV set. Invited in duplex during a live broadcast on the BFM Story show, presented by Alain Marschall and Olivier Truchot, the interview was cut off after only two minutes…

Invited to talk about “arms deliveries to Israel and Emmanuel Macron’s comments on the subject”, Rima Hassan took the opportunity to “denounce the fact that BFM was congratulated yesterday by a spokesperson for the genocidal Israeli army , for its treatment of the subject and its editorial line”, she wrote on -Aviv that the 24-hour news channel did “an excellent job in presenting the conflict”. A comment that shocked the young politician.

“That says a lot about your editorial line on this subject, and I hope that you realize that sooner or later you will have to be held accountable as a media,” she said in duplex. It was enough for the tone to rise between the MEP and Alain Marschall and Olivier Truchot. The latter believing that Rima Hassan could not “call into question the work of an entire editorial team” and “attack BFMTV when we invite you”.

“It’s as if Hamas is congratulating you”

Amidst a great ruckus, both parties then attempted to cut the other off. Until Rima Hassan said: “It’s as if Hamas was congratulating you, it’s very problematic, admit it. »

One sentence too many for the presenters who then decided to cut the interview short without addressing the main subject. “Listen, stop, we’re going to stop. The interview ends,” says BFMTV after two minutes.

Our file on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

A statement from the SDJ

But the matter does not end there. Tuesday evening, the Society of Journalists of BFMTV (SDJ) published a press release to return to this sequence. She “deplores the questioning of the work of the editorial staff by the MEP in her coverage of the conflict”. And to recall in passing the presence of “numerous special envoys or correspondents in the region, in Lebanon, in the West Bank, in Israel or in Iran”.

The BFMTV press release recalls “the broadcast over the weekend of a long-format investigation carried out with Palestinian journalists in Gaza”, testifying to the damage inflicted by the Israeli army on the Palestinian enclave. An investigation “strongly contested on set by Olivier Rafowicz”. The SDJ regrets “a sentence taken out of context and used to attack BFMTV and the work of its editorial staff”.

For her part, the MEP denounces, “the censorship of critical voices from Israel, BFMTV excels in this area”… The latter may not reappear on BFMTV anytime soon…
