Competition between Instagram and TikTok is in full swing. The most popular social network among Gen Z has taken a new direction by introducing a new social media platform called “Whee”, in a bid to overshadow its biggest rival, Meta’s child, Instagram .

According to what has been shown on the web, this new social network looks a lot like Instagram. TikTok describes Whee as a platform designed to help users stay in touch with their closest friends. Essentially, it works as a private social network where you can share content exclusively with those around you. So it’s a combination of Instagram, Snapchat and BeReal.

Last April, TikTok confirmed the development of an app called TikTok Notes, which was then rolled out to some users as a photo-sharing space. The move seemed logical since TikTok primarily focuses on video content, making a separate app for photos understandable.

However, TikTok has now introduced another app called Whee, which seems very similar in concept. Whee’s purpose remains unclear to us. It’s possible that TikTok Notes will be renamed Whee, but this has yet to be confirmed.
