Visiting a press conference this Saturday as the duel between Belgium and France approaches, Ibrahima Konaté praised the merits of Mike Maignan, as well as those of Eden Hazard, two former LOSC residents.

In a few days, this Monday to be more exact, the French football team will face Belgium in the round of 16 of Euro 2024. As this meeting approaches, Ibrahima Konaté was in press conference, where he highlighted the qualities of his future opponents: “We talked about it with the others. I think Romelu Lukaku is the strongest striker I have played against. He is a player with a lot of qualities, but there is not only Lukaku in this Belgian team. It’s a whole group. It will be a very complicated match because they will be revengers of the 2018 World Cup. The match will arrive very quickly, we will have to train and be all together, says the French central defender, who remembers the last clash between the two nations in a major tournament. It was 2018 in Russia. I remember it. I was at home, with Leipzig during this World Cup semi-final. Honestly, I didn’t believe it because Belgium had an impressive team with Eden Hazard, who was annoying (laughs). It was fabulous, I hope we will experience the same outcome on Monday.”

Confined to the bench since the start of the competition, Ibrahima Konaté is dragging his spleen, even if he feels ready to give his body and soul for the Blues. Despite this, he highlighted the team’s good defensive performances, including those repeated by his goalkeeper: “Mike Maignan, it’s clear that he’s an extraordinary goalkeeper. I think he showed it at the start of the competition by saving us several times.”he concludes, praising a second former LOSC player, after Eden Hazard…
