The peloton enters French territory on Tuesday, July 2. On the program, the legendary Galibier pass which should be the scene of the first big battle between the favorites.

After the first Montgenèvre pass, the riders will leave the Italian lands behind to head into the French mountains. This will be an opportunity for the Tour favourites to test themselves for the first time. Everyone is particularly looking forward to the duel between Pogacar and Vingegaard. But today’s stage should also be favourable to breakaway groups and good climbers.

In total, over these 139.6 kilometres, the peloton will face three summits, two in the second category and one, the Galibier, outside the category with 23.6 kilometres at 5.1% average slopes.

There will be 16 kilometers of final descent to reach Valloire. The first to cross the Galibier and its 2,642 meters of altitude will be awarded the Henri Desgrange Memorial.
