Austrian GP: Max Verstappen settles the bill in qualifying

We were waiting for the McLaren reaction. They were powerless. Already beaten during qualifying and the Sprint race by a reinvigorated Max Verstappen and a Red Bull, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri (whose best time was erased for non-compliance with the track limits) were unable to do anything to titillate the Dutch pilot, past master in the exercise. Despite changes to the wing and front suspensions, the McLarens had to settle for first place for Lando Norris, relegated to 4 tenths of the Red Bull. Worse, the other papaya-colored car will start on the third row, alongside the other Red Bull, that of Sergio Pérez conceding almost a second to his teammate.

After an excellent second run, Georges Russel put his Mercedes on the second row alongside Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari, which means that we have four different teams in the first four places on the starting grid for this Austrian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton, who is just over 5 hundredths behind, will share the 3rd row with Charles Leclerc, who is decidedly not in luck this weekend. The Monegasque driver took a detour through the gravel trap, then went too wide on the penultimate corner, cancelling out any chance of improving on his last qualifying lap. We should also note the excellent Q3 performance by Esteban Ocon (Alpine), who was 5 tenths behind Nico Hülkenberg (Haas).
