Richard Bland had to wait until his 478th attempt on the European Tour to win his first title, he was much quicker to pocket two in the over-50s. Victorious on his first attempt last month in a major among seniors at KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship which he was able to play thanks to an invitation, the Englishman did it again this Monday at theUS Open Senior.

The event had to go into extra time twice. First, it could not finish on Sunday because of thunderstorms on the Newport Country ClubThen Richard Bland and Japanese Hiroyuki Fujita finished with the same score of -13. They played six play-off holes to decide. It was in the second series of three holes that the LIV player managed to make the difference.

Qualified for the 2025 US Open

With this title, Richard Bland thus pocketed $800,000 (€745,000). He is assured of being able to play theUS Open Senior for the next ten years. The 51-year-old golfer will also play the 125e US Open has Oakmont among the stars next year.

This title will not, however, allow him to join the survey PGA Tour Champions. As indicated by the PGA of America In a statement last May after Bland’s first victory, his participation in the LIV closes him off from the American over-50s circuit. Despite his victory, due to his participation in an unsanctioned PGA Tour event, he will not be eligible for Tour-affiliated events. The PGA of America, USGA and R&A each operate on their own criteria. »
