Georgia’s star ratings are soaring!

Georgia is dreaming. Already very happy to have been able to participate in the first European Championship in its history, the nation landlocked between Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia did not think for a second that it would be present in the money time of the competition. And yet. Thanks to its historic victory against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal (2-0), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s gang will indeed play the round of 16 of Euro 2024, against Spain.

Competing with La Roja may be too complicated, but Georgia has already won the Euro. And as in every major competition, when a small country is a hit, its best players see their rating skyrocket on the transfer market. The best known, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (23 years old), is already worth a fortune since Napoli is asking for no less than €120 million. Paris Saint-Germain’s money may not be enough, however, with Kvaratskhelia declared untransferable by president Aurelio De Laurentiis and his new coach, Antonio Conte. The Partenopei are even working to extend his contract until 2028.

A transfer window with a Georgian accent

The other Georgian star of the transfer window is of course Georges Mikautadze (23 years old). Today, despite his relegation to Ligue 2, Metz is very happy to have exercised the €13 million purchase option to buy him from Ajax Amsterdam (Mikautadze had been sold to the Lancers in 2023 for €16 million). The Grenats are indeed assured of making a nice capital gain. Author of 11 goals in 17 Ligue 1 matches, the Georgian striker is currently the provisional top scorer of Euro 2024 (3 goals). Enough to give him some great publicity in view of the transfer window. Courted by many French teams (Monaco, Rennes, Lens, OL, OM), Mikautadze wants to stay in Ligue 1. But unsurprisingly, the scorer’s clan and FC Metz are waiting for the end of Georgia’s journey to decide. And the prices mentioned are already above €20 million.

Starting goalkeeper for Valencia FC for two seasons, Giorgi Mamardashvili (23 years old) also had a very good Euro. And the Spanish club has understood that well. Linked to training until 2027, the doorman is followed, but according to The beach barValencia will demand €60 million from anyone who wants to buy him. A price that would make the Georgian the third most expensive goalkeeper in history behind Kepa Arrizabalaga (€80 million) and Alisson (€62.5 million). Valencia has, in any case, already planned for the departure of its goalkeeper since it has recruited the Macedonian Stole Dimitrievski. He should not cost that much, but Giorgi Kochorashvili (24 years old) may not stay in the Spanish second division for long. Linked to Levante until 2027, the defensive midfielder impresses everyone. Finally, Willy Sagnol could also take advantage of this great run to restore his reputation. Heavily criticized after his stints on the benches of the Espoirs, Bordeaux and Bayern Munich, the former full-back has made a comeback with Georgia. Coach since 2021, Sagnol had confided to Foot Market last November that this Euro 2024 could be his last adventure with the Eastern country. Enough to give him another chance at the club?
