AS Saint-Etienne wants to take advantage of this off-season to make a big change in its squad. With the promotion to Ligue 1 and the arrival of new owners, the Stéphanois want to create a group to plan for several seasons and progress towards the top of the elite table. This is the medium-term wish of Kilmer Sports Ventures, the new majority shareholders, who are aiming for qualification for the European Cup in 5 years. As a result, the Greens are working to trim down and get rid of many players who will not contribute to Ligue 1. This is the case of Maxence Rivera, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder who left Forez to join the North of France and Dunkirk.

Rivera returns to his departure from Saint-Etienne

Interviewed by local media Le Progrès, the player trained at ASSE returned to the reasons for his signing with the last 14th in Ligue 2. “Dunkerque came to see me for a few matches in Saint-Étienne. I had other offers, but they really wanted me. When a club calls you several times to tell you that they want you, it means that they are really interested. I am convinced that it is the best project for my career. I spoke with the sporting director and the sporting coordinator who relayed the coach’s words. It feels good and I tell myself that it is a new beginning. We will have to do the job there.”

Rivera, who started 4 times last year (11 Ligue 2 matches in total last season), thanked his training club. “I received superb training. I arrived in Saint-Etienne in U14. Everything has gone well so far. I have no regrets. Even though I didn’t play much during my professional years. I won the Gambardella in 2019. I only had good coaches throughout my training, I only have good memories. I will never spit on this club. » declared the native of Venissieux.
