Soufiane Rahimi and Achraf Hakimi, two players who carry Morocco’s hope of winning a 5th African Ballon d’Or, during the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony.
The two Atlas Lions are serious candidates for this prestigious title, which will be awarded during the CAF Awards ceremony, scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech.
In 2023, Nigerian Victor Osimhen was named best African player of the year. The Green Eagles striker was rewarded for his brilliant season spent with Naples, crowned by a Serie A title. Some believe that Achraf Hakimi deserved this title given his historic World Cup in Qatar. But the CAF jury ultimately decided otherwise.
For this year, Hakimi and Rahimi are in pole position to offer Morocco a 5th African Ballon d’Or. The two Moroccan players will be in the running for this prize, alongside the Algerian Amine Gouiri, the Burkinabé Edmond Tapsoba, the Ivorian Simon Adingra, the Congolese Chancel Mbemba, the Guinean Serhou Gulrassy, the Nigerians Ademola Lookman and William Troost- Ekong, as well as South African Ronwen Williams.
Ademola Lookman serious candidate
In this list of candidates, we find the name of Ademola Lookman, a serious contender for this African Ballon d’Or title. The Nigerian striker offered Atalanta the Europa League title, scoring a hat-trick in the final, against Bayer Leverkusen (3-0).
During the 2023-2024 season, he scored 17 goals in all competitions and provided 9 assists.
