The draw for the group stage of the Women’s Champions League took place this Friday. For its first in the competition, Galatasaray of Hapsatou Malado Diallo will have a lot to face in its group A.
The sixteen clubs entered in the Women’s Champions League for this 2024-2025 season have known, since this Friday, their opponents in the group stage, after the draw which took place in Nyon (Switzerland). For the first time, a team from Türkiye will be present in the final phase of the competition. This is Galatasaray, qualified after their exploit in the play-offs against the Czechs Slavia Prague.
But Hapsatou’s partners Malado Diallo, the 19-year-old Senegalese striker who played a key role in this historic qualification, will have very, very hard to do in the first round. In group A, they will face the competition record holder, in this case Olympique Lyonnais, then Wolfsburg, winner in 2013 and 2014 and finalist five times (2016, 2018, 2020, 2023), and, finally, the AS Roma.
FC Barcelona spared
In the other groups, we will find the duel between Chelsea and Real Madrid, who had already faced each other last season. The English and Spanish will be in Group B with FC Twente and Celtic Glasgow. Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Juventus and Vålerenga are staying in Pool C, while the double defending champion, FC Barcelona, had a rather lenient draw with Manchester City, Sankt Pölten and Hammarby.
