Tangier – The Moroccan Sports Press Association (AMPS) and its Spanish and Portuguese counterparts signed a cooperation protocol on Wednesday in Tangier, covering broader collaboration between the structures with a view to the joint organization of the 2030 Football World Cup.

The cooperation protocol aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the three associations, highlighting the common heritage in football, culture and human terms, and also to unite the efforts of professionals in order to support major initiatives linked to the joint organisation of the 2030 World Cup.

This protocol also aims to strengthen relations between sports journalists from the three nations, by promoting the sharing of professional experiences and ensuring that the lasting legacy that this collective organisation of the World Cup will leave is preserved.

This initiative also reflects the shared conviction of the three associations that the media represent an essential lever to guarantee the success of major sporting events. It thus reflects their awareness of the key role that sports media can play in the preparation of the World Cup, a unique edition in the history of this global competition co-organized by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

The president of the AMPS, Badreddine El Idrissi, stressed in this sense that the signing of the protocol marks “a strong moment” where the three associations unite to create a common structure, aimed at supporting the efforts of the organizing countries to offer an exceptional World Cup, noting that the media play a key role in the success of major sporting events and in the transmission of their legacy.

He added that the protocol also aims to create a common front to defend the interests of sports journalists, to establish a platform for the exchange of expertise, to support young journalists, to promote training, and to encourage the sharing of experiences between the three countries, stressing moreover that the choice of Tangier to host this ceremony was motivated by the symbolism of the city, a true cultural crossroads and space for exchanges between these nations.

For his part, the vice-president of the Spanish Sports Press Association, Jesus Alvarez, indicated that the main objective of the protocol is to capitalize on the media experience specific to each of the three countries, noting that it aims to create a framework to accompany and support sports journalists around the world in covering the events of the 2030 World Cup, while also seeking to harmonize media efforts to follow all stages of the World Cup preparations.

The president of the Portuguese Sports Press Association, Manuel Queiroz, said that this protocol will strengthen the efforts of journalists in their coverage of the 2030 World Cup, whether through coverage and commentary on the matches, transmission of the atmosphere of the tournament, as well as parallel activities aimed at highlighting the culture of each country.

He added: “We aspire to make the World Cup a means of bringing together the three nations. This edition will be unique and remarkable, because although the host countries have different cultures, they share a common humanity.”
