After major transformation and security work that began on April 1, 2023, the iconic indoor swimming pool in Lausanne, Mon-Repos, reopens its doors on Saturday afternoon. It now benefits from a completely renovated sanitary system and universal (mixed) changing rooms with 24 new, larger cabins, particularly for welcoming families.

People with reduced mobility have a new elevator accessible from the entrance hall, adapted toilets and showers, as well as a mobile elevator to enter the pools, the City of Lausanne announced in a press release on Wednesday. The cost of all the work amounts to 4.7 million francs.

The Municipality of Lausanne and the City’s Sports Department presented the new look of the Mon-Repos swimming pool to the media on Wednesday after 18 months of work. “It is a great pleasure to reopen a modernized Mon-Repos swimming pool to the population, with universal changing rooms that meet the current needs of users, especially families,” said Emilie Moeschler, municipal official in charge of sports and social cohesion.

A free afternoon

Initially scheduled to last nine months, the work was extended until September 2024 following the discovery of advanced corrosion of the reinforcements on several slabs, requiring in-depth remediation of the structure and the waterproofing of the floors, it is recalled.

Following this work, all the tiles surrounding the pools were replaced. The beige tones used in the changing rooms are reminiscent of the original colour range.

On Saturday, access will be free from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Lausanne Aquatique will offer aquagym classes and an introduction to diving.

The Mon-Repos swimming pool was opened in 1972. Open 300 days a year, it welcomes an average of 180,000 people per year.
