Quebecer Leylah Annie Fernandez seems ready for the famous Wimbledon tournament which will begin next Monday, because she scored another convincing victory on the Eastbourne lawn on Thursday.

The 30e world player defeated the British Harriet Dart (105e) in two sets of 6-2 and 6-1 in the quarter-finals. She needed only 67 minutes to reach the semi-finals, where she will face American Madison Keys, fourth seed. The latter took advantage of the withdrawal of Czech Karolina Muchova in the morning.

Fernandez won 80.8% of the points contested on his first serve; her rival kept a low percentage of 38.5% points won with the first balls in hand. Consequently, the maple leaf athlete managed five breaks in seven occasions.

She is having a good week, since she won by an identical score at the expense of the American Ashlyn Krueger the day before.

Trip to Paris

In addition, Fernandez learned another piece of good news, as Tennis Canada announced that she will represent the country at the Paris Olympic Games, like Félix Auger-Aliassime, among others.

The Laval resident will be one of two Canadians in action in women’s singles, the other being Bianca Andreescu. Additionally, she will team up with Gabriela Dabrowski in doubles. In the men’s category, FAA and veteran Milos Raonic received an invitation. They will also form a pair in the doubles tournament.
