A man suspected of planning terrorist attacks against “Jewish targets” indicted and imprisoned in Paris

The man is suspected of having prepared terrorist attacks targeting people of the Jewish faith, “probably” during the Olympic Games.

A 19-year-old man was charged and placed in pre-trial detention this Friday, June 21, on suspicion, with another minor already prosecuted, “of having considered committing violent action, targeting, in particular, Jewish targets”indicated a judicial source.

He was indicted for terrorist conspiracy with a view to preparing crimes of harm to persons, acquisition and possession of weapons in relation to a terrorist enterprise, detailed the judicial source, confirming information from BFMTVwithout giving more details on the intended targets.

The minor had been “indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on June 13”. The two suspects, domiciled in the Paris region, “linked via social networks, are accused of having considered committing violent action, targeting, in particular, Jewish targets”specified the same source, without giving more details on the intended targets.

More and more young people

“The investigations, which will continue as part of the judicial information”opened by the national anti-terrorism prosecution, “will aim in particular to clarify the nature of the project”she added.

No details on the profile of the two young men and how they were spotted have been communicated. Anti-terrorism magistrates are concerned about the increasing appearance in recent months of adolescents or young adults in cases involving violent action plans.

“This is a necessarily worrying phenomenon”judged this Wednesday, June 19 during a presentation hearing Olivier Christen, the anti-terrorism prosecutor.

This case comes in a context marked by the anti-Semitic rape of a 12-year-old girl in Courbevoie, near Paris, which aroused strong emotion in the Jewish community and beyond. Two 13-year-old boys were charged and imprisoned this Tuesday, June 18, notably for gang rape, death threats, insults and anti-Semitic violence. Several rallies in support of the young victim and against anti-Semitism have been organized in the middle of the electoral campaign in recent days, including one Friday afternoon in Courbevoie.
