Carrefour Léonard: soon the next major stage of work, here are the planned disruptions

The next phase of the large-scale renovation of the Leonardo tunnel will begin at the beginning of July on the Brussels ring road. This new phase will be accompanied by additional delays, ranging from 30 minutes to an hour, on the Brussels inner ring road, the Flemish agency in charge of roads and traffic warned on Thursday.

Over the coming months, work will be carried out on the foundation of the inner and outer ring tunnels. The invert constitutes the foundation of the tunnel, on which the roadway rests. It will be covered with a sealing layer and an asphalt layer, and the lower and upper layers of the roadway will be laid on the asphalt. In total, an area of 12,000 square meters will be treated. The inner ring tunnel will be treated first, followed by the outer ring tunnel.

From the beginning of July, this work will cause disruptions, mainly on the inner ring. It will still be possible to travel, but on one lane instead of two in the direction of Waterloo. Delays could range from 30 minutes to an hour according to the Flemish agency in charge of roads and traffic. Users taking the E411 towards Namur or Auderghem via the inner ring road should also expect traffic jams.

The connection between the outer ring and the E411 towards Hermann Debroux/Auderghem will also be closed at the beginning of July. Until the end of October, it will no longer be possible to take the E411 towards Auderghem from Waterloo. Traffic will be diverted either via the outer ring at Groenendaal, or by continuing to Quatre bras and leaving the outer ring there, or by turning around at Quatre bras and returning via the inner ring to Carrefour Leonard.

Between July 29 and August 18, traffic on the outer ring, i.e. traffic coming from Waterloo and heading towards Zaventem, will also be severely disrupted. Motorists will only be able to travel on one lane instead of two during these two weeks. The exact timing of these adjustments has not yet been determined.
