Vincent Collet and the Blues, it’s officially over

-

After 15 years at the helm of the Blues, the 61-year-old technician was not reappointed to his duties. A Blue legend.

The end of an era. Vincent Collet had largely dulled the suspense by declaring, after the Olympic final narrowly lost to the Americans on August 11: “I normally finish”. The confirmation came this Monday. Appointed in 2009 to succeed Michel Gomez, the 61-year-old Normandy technician, whose contract ends after the 2024 Olympics, has not been reappointed as coach of the French team. The name of his successor is not yet known. Various sources make Fred Fauthoux, currently in post in Bourg-en-Bresse, the favorite to succeed Collet.

Holder of many records at the head of the French team, in terms of longevity (15 years), number of matches (253) and victories (179), Vincent Collet is also the one who has the most beautiful record with eight medals, including the European title of 2013. For the moment, the only title in the history of the Blues. Collet also guided his players to two Olympic finals against the Americans (2021, 2024), two European finals (2011, 2022) and several podiums, at the Euro (2015) and the World Cup (2014, 2019). A coach known for his attention to detail, his love for the collective, his appetite for defense. And winning, always winning. Vincent Collet is not leaving the FFBB since he was appointed special advisor to the National Technical Directorate.

Next meeting for the Blues and their future coach? November 21 and 24 against Cyprus, in qualifying for a EuroBasket that will take place next summer in Latvia, Cyprus, Finland and Poland.
