Temperatures will drop drastically from Wednesday, September 11 due to the arrival of a polar air mass. Autumn is coming faster than usual according to Météo France. Snow is expected in the mountains as well as temperatures, in the plains, at the level of those usually felt at All Saints’ Day.

If we expect a drop in temperatures in September, the one that is coming is proving to be a bit abrupt. The cold should arrive in France on Wednesday. On Thursday the low peak should be reached with 15°C maximum average across France. 20°C will barely be reached near the Mediterranean according to Météo France.

Gers climatologist Christophe Cassou echoes this in a post on “X” and publishes an edifying map from Météo France which shows the “magic of atmospheric fluids”. Temperatures will be 4 to 7°C below seasonal norms, which is equivalent to those usually recorded at All Saints’ Day. This sudden drop is due to the arrival of a polar air mass which will descend as far as the Mediterranean.

This air mass should generate rain and showers in the plains, or even frost in the morning. In the mountains, the first snowfalls of this end of summer are expected in the Pyrenees from 1800 meters on Thursday. The highest peaks of the Massif Central could also be affected.

According to the Weather Channel, “due to the deepening of a depression over the Gulf of Genoa, dominated by cold air over a warm sea, a lasting period of mistral and tramontane winds will set in from Monday. This wind will continue until next Saturday. It is therefore a whole week of strong winds that will affect the shores of the Mediterranean.”

Clear spells are expected to appear from Thursday evening, which should further accentuate the drop in temperatures, especially at night and mainly in the evening from Friday to Saturday.
