testimony – Bruno Guitton, the manager of the campsite “Le Gave d’Aspe”, tells “20 Minutes” about the torrential rains and violent floods that occurred during the night from Friday to Saturday

The equivalent of two months of rain fell in just twenty-four hours in the Aspe Valley (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Four Béarnese municipalities were particularly affected by this episode of “rain floods”, coupled with an exceptional flood: Borce, Etsaut, Urdos and Cette-Eygun.

In Urdos, Bruno Guitton is recovering a little from his emotions four-eight hours after the elements unleashed themselves on his little corner of paradise, sweeping away some of his vehicles and the chalets of his campsite “Le Gave d’Aspe” located at the gateway to the Pyrenees National Park. “Every year, we have torrential rain but this time the circumstances were different. Tree trunks and piles of rocks, carried by the Gave, have accumulated, particularly at the power station. At one point, they diverted the watercourse which even crossed the campsite.”

“Fortunately, no one was injured.”

Half of his camping and caravanning site was submerged. Of the two mini-chalets built on the banks of the Gave, one was swept away and the other was moved and badly damaged. Two caravans and cars were swept away by the floodwaters swollen with(…) - 20minutes
