According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the 32-year-old American actress and entrepreneur’s fortune is now in the ten-figure range. Her earnings are mainly due to the phenomenal success of her beauty business.

She is one of the youngest women in the United States to reach billionaire status. Selena Gomez has just entered for the first time the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which lists the 500 richest people in the world based on their net worth. The analysis reveals that her fortune amounts to $1.3 billion and that the majority of it (80%) comes from the proceeds of Rare Beauty, the inclusive cosmetics line that she launched five years ago.

Talents multiples

To arrive at this result, the study took into account the estimated value of her stake in her two companies, Rare Beauty, on the one hand, and Wondermind, on the other, a digital platform promoting mental health. The report also includes the value of her album sales and properties, as well as revenue from streaming deals, brand partnerships, concert tickets sold and acting contracts. “Selena is not just a pop star,” Stacy Jones, founder and CEO of the American branding agency Hollywood Branded, told Bloomberg. “She is a multifaceted businesswoman whose diverse income sources contribute to her impressive net worth.”

With her makeup tutorial videos that have racked up millions of views and her messages of self-acceptance based on her own experiences, the star has made each product launch go viral. The key to her success? “Authenticity,” according to Brent Saunders, CEO of eye health company Bausch+Lomb Corp. and an investor in startup Wondermind. “You have a real example of how a celebrity can use their influence and expertise to do good and build good companies. Selena embodies that,” he tells Bloomberg.

According to US market research firm Pitchbook, Rare Beauty had annual revenue of $350 million last year, surpassing other celebrity-founded beauty brands such as Jessica Alba’s Honest Co. and Lady Gaga’s Haus Labs. And Wondermind, which she co-founded two years ago, was valued at $100 million in 2022.

Indeed, her tours represent less than 5% of her fortune, while her album and record sales, less than 2%. Indeed, the singer, who had abruptly canceled her tour Revival in 2016 due to his mental health issues, has not rescheduled a tour since.
