The 50-year-old former international is convinced of the innocence of his son accused of rape in Argentina.
While French international Hugo Auradou, who returned from Argentina on Wednesday where he is still being prosecuted for rape and sexual assault, returned to training with his club Pau on Monday morning, his father David, a former international player and iconic player for Stade Français Paris, spoke about the affair on Sunday during the show Seven to Eight on TF1.In my deepest conviction, I know that my son is innocent, because he is my son. He has one primary quality, which is that he never lies. Even if he has other faults. But if he had really been an idiot, he would not have been so convincing. That is a certainty.”
And the former international second-row (41 selections between 1999 and 2004), who became coach of the Parisian club Suresnes (National, 3rd division), added about his son: “He doesn’t understand, he is incredulous and he says to me: “Dad, believe me, everything you’re told about me is false.” The young player from Section Paloise (21 years old) was authorized last week by the Argentinian justice system to return to France while awaiting the legal consequences of his indictment for aggravated rape, which also concerns La Rochelle third-row Oscar Jégou. The recommendation of the Mendoza prosecutor’s office, considering that “the initial accusation has lost its force.”
The investigating judge in charge of the case is due to rule on Thursday on the request for dismissal filed by the lawyers of the two players. The French rugby players have maintained from the beginning that the sexual relations with the 39-year-old Argentinian woman were consensual and deny any violence. The complainant told AFP last week: “I feel abandoned by the justice system in Mendoza. They treat me like a criminal when I am the victim. (…) They will be condemned socially, because my testimony is true and honest.”
