The 27-year-old singer spoke out in a video posted to his Instagram account, two months after the accident in which he nearly lost his life. Miraculously saved, he assured that he would now do everything possible to “be up to it now”.
A deliberate shooting to “simulate suicide”. This is how the public prosecutor described the incomprehensible act of the French singer on April 22, 2024.
On an area of Travelers, a community to which Kendji Girac belongs, an argument breaks out between the singer and his wife. Drunk and drugged, he then shot himself point-blank in the chest, passing close to the heart and puncturing the lung. However, no organ is affected, the prosecutor Olivier Janson himself speaks of a “miraculous” journey of the bullet.
Two months after the incident, after having treated himself and having given time for justice to do its work, Kendji Girac decided to explain himself to his fans in an Instagram video. Sharing his stress and his joy at expressing himself, he explains that he “got into a spiral that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”
“I lost myself, I almost lost my life, the love of my family, my friends, my audience,” he continues. The singer asks for forgiveness from everyone he has hurt and explains that he wants to “return to the boy I was, that I am deep inside”.
But, Kendji Girac attributes his luck in still being alive to God and explains that he wants to do everything possible to make this life as beautiful as possible:
“God gave me this second chance, if he gave it to me it’s not for nothing, it’s to do even more beautiful things, bigger things, to share love, to share all this music.”
For around ten years, Kendji Girac has charmed a wide audience with his melodies inspired by his gypsy origins and does not hide his evangelical faith. In 2019, he even mentioned the possibility of becoming a pastor in the Sunday Journal.
