Benedict Cumberbatch confirms that he will reprise the role of Doctor Strange in the Marvel film “Avengers 5”, which should begin filming in 2025.

At the beginning of June we learned that Avengers 5, scheduled to hit theaters on April 29, 2026, would feature at least 60 characters from the MCU. Deadline specified that from Thor to Hulk via Nebula, Loki, Doctor Strange and even Shang-Chi, many superheroes should take part in this new film.

Asked about his key roles within the framework of promoting his series Netflix Eric, Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that he will be in the cast of Avengers 5 and that production of the feature film will take place in 2025. This will be his seventh appearance on screen in the role of Doctor Strange.

“I have a pretty good relationship with Marvel. I’m really looking forward to doing the next Avengers next year, it promises to be spectacular.”

This information is not surprising since Dr. Strange has been one of the central figures of the Avengers since the departure of Robert Downey Jr. / Iron Man and Chris ‘Captain America’ Evans. The Sorcerer Supreme was also one of the only Avengers to appear in the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tom Holland.

From the Multiverse in Avengers 5

The presence of 60 Marvel characters in Avengers 5 foreshadows the exploration of the multiverse, and Stephen Strange’s ability to open portals to travel across the world and other parts of the multiverse is a real asset.

We also imagine that Deadpool, whose third adventure entitled Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 24, could be part of Avengers 5 since in Shawn Levy’s film, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Logan (Hugh Jackman) will travel between universes thanks to the Court of Anachronic Variations, already seen in the Loki series.

What do we know about Avengers 5?

We still don’t know who will direct Avengers 5but Marvel recently spoke with Shawn Levy on this subject. According to the American site Deadlinethe director received the latest script written by Michael Waldron and is said to be “top of the list” to direct this ensemble film.

For the moment, it is unknown what plans the House of Ideas has regarding the replacement of the big bad Kang after his interpreter Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment towards his former girlfriend.

It is also rumored that Robert Downey Jr., aka Iron Man, could reprise his role, just like Chris Evans as Captain America. With the establishment of the multiverse within the MCU, anything is now possible. An appearance by the X-Men is also mentioned. But this information should be taken with caution since Kevin Feige declared to Variety that the studio couldn’t “magically undo” Tony Stark’s death in Endgame.

The next Marvel films

Avengers 5 is scheduled to hit our theaters on April 29, 2026. In the meantime, MCU fans will discover Deadpool & Wolverine from July 24. Captain America: Brave New World, which will introduce Anthony Mackie’s Captain America to the cinema, will be released on February 12, 2025, Thunderbolts with Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbor is announced for April 30, 2025.

The new iteration of Fantastic Four will be visible in our theaters on July 25, 2025, while Blade is still announced for November 5, 2025. However, given the chaotic production of this film – which has once again lost its director – it is possible that it will be delayed.
