The people of Casablanca were pleasantly surprised by the makeover of the Sidi Abderrahmane mausoleum, which underwent renovation work.

Speaking to Le Site info, a visitor praised the initiative of the authorities to revive this emblematic monument of the metropolis. “I am so happy that the fortune tellers and charlatans who negatively affected the image of the mausoleum have been evacuated from the premises. They also tarnished the image of Morocco internationally,” he rejoiced.

The same story was echoed by another visitor who applauded the operation and called on the authorities to rehabilitate all the mausoleums in Casablanca in order to attract more tourists.

It is worth recalling that after the demolition of the unsanitary dwellings, the walls of the mausoleum were repainted and now bear panels telling the story of the saints buried there. The stairs leading there have also been refurbished, to the great delight of visitors.

Last January, Mohamed Mhidia, the wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, ordered the demolition of unsanitary dwellings near the mausoleum and the evacuation of the fortune tellers and charlatans who occupied the premises. This operation took place as part of the broad campaign to put an end to unsanitary housing and the illegal exploitation of public space.
