the essential
On December 20, Camille Lecocq, 30, died in a road accident in Calamane, causing turmoil in Nuzéjouls where she grew up. His companion, Léo Regazzi, agreed to return to this tragic event to maintain his memory.

He is not used to speaking to the press. “That’s not my way. If I come here, it is to leave an additional memory of Camille. The more things there are about her, the less we will forget her,” hopes Léo Regazzi, whom we meet at the Bistrot de l’Isa in Cahors.

It must be understood that the subject of this interview is not cheerful. It is even tragic. Since we are talking about Camille Lecocq, 30 years old, his partner who lost her life in a road accident in Calamane on December 20: “Her parents also wanted to point out that another person was in the vehicle opposite, and that she died. » An 82-year-old woman.

Road maintenance involved?

That morning, Camille is late. She was supposed to start at 10 a.m. at the Nuzéjouls nursery school, but she was finally asked if she could come for 8:30 a.m. In addition, Camille was delayed because her car had difficulty starting. It was 8:33 a.m., reported a witness, when his car slipped on a large patch of ice on the RD12, between Espère and Calamane. That's when death strikes, and Camille's vehicle crashes into another.

“Next to the road, there is a gravel path from which mud and gravel descend to the level of the gutter. And the channel becomes clogged. As there is no maintenance, the water stagnates and it forms ice,” points out Léo while road maintenance is the responsibility of the department. Having been informed of the accident, he was able to see the state of the road himself: “When I arrived, the police shouted at me to be careful, that it was slippery. I slipped, like them a little before. »

This is where the anger of Léo and those close to him arises: “We are subject to alcohol checks, permanent technical checks, they annoy us all the time. On the other hand, there is a road with accidents every year and there are no problems,” he gets angry.

However, Léo is not in an accusatory approach. The proof when we ask him if he thinks that Camille would have survived if it hadn't been for this patch of ice: “The question doesn't even arise. What if? What if? What if, two years ago, we had chosen to buy land in Calamane? What if she hadn't been called to hire at 8:30 a.m. rather than 10 a.m.? What if the car had not had a problem and had been able to start immediately? Wouldn't she perhaps have driven a little slower? It's an unfortunate combination of circumstances. »

Either way, a life is lost. And with it, that of his parents, his loved ones, the children who could have been born from this union, as Léo reports when he writes a final farewell message to his love on Facebook.

Rays of joy

Of Camille, there will ultimately remain a luminous memory, of a “solar” woman, as the mayor of Nuzéjouls, Brigitte Dessertaine, wrote: “It’s a pretty word that I didn’t know. It suits her well,” says her companion, who wants to remind us “that she loved life passionately. She got up every day at 6 a.m. because she always wanted to do lots of things.” He cites her passion for Qi Gong, pétanque and of course horse riding which she practiced at the Quercy de Pradines stables, “her second family since she was born there. » Much more than a hobby, she excelled at it by becoming the French jumping vice-champion in 2012. Since reconverting to AESH at the Nuzéjouls nursery school, she would soon become the happy owner of two horses, Victoire and Miracle. Here again, two lives which will not benefit from the rays of Camille's joy.

Joy. This is ultimately what people who knew Camille Lecocq reveal. As this anecdote from Léo illustrates as we part: “Once, at the Pradines stables, I complained about his dog who only barked with excitement. A friend replied: “Usually, we only hear him AND Camille.” We laughed because that was Camille, someone who laughed, all the time, non-stop. » And which leaves a silence behind it.

When contacted, the Department did not wish to comment on this tragedy, having not received the conclusions of the investigation from the gendarmerie services. This was recently closed. When contacted, the prosecution did not respond to our requests to communicate its conclusions to us.
