On the night of Saturday January 18 to Sunday January 19, a group attacked several public buildings in the Saugeraies district of Mâcon, in Saône-et-Loire.
In Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire), in the Saugeraies district, the facade of a social center was set on fire while the body of a car was found in a parking lot. On the morning of Sunday January 19, residents angrily discovered the damage caused by a night of urban violence. During the night, around 2 a.m., a group attacked several public buildings with fireworks mortar. Despite the intervention of the police, the rioters managed to set fire to several vans in the parking lot of a large store.
An anti-drug operation had taken place in this sensitive neighborhood a month earlier. For the prefect, these riots are the work of traffickers. “They are trying to intimidate. We obviously will not back down from this form of intimidation”says Yves Séguy, prefect of Saône-et-Loire. The police managed to restore calm around 5 a.m. One person was arrested and taken into custody.
