This is a first in the department. During this last weekend of school holidays, an unprecedented security operation was carried out by several Puy-en-Velay gendarmerie units in the town of Estables and on the slopes.
Seven soldiers patrolled the Alpine area on skis on Saturday, and five on snowshoes in the Nordic zone on Sunday. They also carried out checks on the roads and car parks in the village.
Objective: “fight against uncontrolled parking”
“The favorable snow conditions have generated a large number of people in the resort, but also uncontrolled, inconvenient and sometimes even dangerous parking. We also find ourselves faced with vehicles that are unsuitable for winter conditions. The aim of our presence, in addition to the usual patrols, is for visitors, residents and traders to have the most peaceful holidays possible,” underlines Captain Mathieu Bigot, head of the Puy-en-Gendarmerie company. Velay, which plans to renew the system for the winter holidays in February.
