The Loire and the Rhône were placed on orange alert from 8 p.m. due to a “violent gale” linked to a disturbance on the Atlantic sides. The wind is already blowing very strongly there, according to our colleagues at Progress.
Once or twice a year
“The southerly wind will become particularly strong from Sunday evening to early Monday afternoon in the Rhônes-Alpes region, particularly in the south” of the two departments, Météo-France estimated.
This gale occurs on average once or twice a year, but it remains “less strong” than storm Bert which occurred at the end of November. The alert will remain in effect for Monday, according to Météo-France.
A mild air mass has settled
On Sunday, meteorologists ended the vigilance by explaining that “a disturbance associated with a mild air mass” was “sweeping the entire country, in a southwest/northeast direction. This mild air puts an end to the snow and freezing rain that required monitoring.”
A 20-year-old young man died on Saturday on the A6 in an accident probably due to the disturbance which crossed the north and east of France during this last weekend of the Christmas holidays.
