In 1979, Ridley Scott reminded us, with his film Alien, that “in space, no one will hear you scream”. However, in the emptiness and silence of the Universe, sound spheres radiate noise, sounds and music. Space brings together unknown sounds from another world that wander around and are sometimes picked up by probes and interpreted by researchers. Sounds that frighten, deceive and betray us because they are unusual to the human ear. Only solar winds encountering the Earth’s magnetic field can immerse us in a familiar environment. The sounds of exoplanets, unknown and foreign, appeal more to the brain of the imagination than that of knowledge. “Imagination is more important than knowledge” according to Albert Einstein, but when science puts itself at the service of the imagination, scientific information can then take a poetic turn. The documentary ‘The Sound of the Planets’ offers a radio universe between sound imagination and scientific information, where we discover the sensitive part of research in the very specific field of planetology.
