A 71-year-old man from La Tuque was found dead Thursday in a snowmobile trail located in a ZEC in Haute-Mauricie.

Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) MRC de Mékinac were notified around 12:45 p.m. Thursday that an inanimate man had been found on a snowmobile trail in the zec of Gros-Brochet.

This zec is located between La Tuque and the indigenous community of Manawan.

The man was reportedly discovered near a snowmobile. There SQ believes that he lost control of his snowmobile before colliding with a tree.

The SQ indicates, however, that there are no direct witnesses to the accident.

The area where the man was found was only accessible by snowmobile. Emergency services arrived on the scene and transported him to a hospital. His death was confirmed late Thursday evening.
