The Saint-Louis hospital center, which is located in Ax-les-Thermes, stands out. In good. In November, it obtained “high quality of care” certification from the High Health Authority, which ranks it among the best French establishments dedicated to rehabilitation.
As a reminder, the structure takes care of elderly people suffering from age-related pathologies, who cannot return home immediately after hospitalization. She also takes care of people suffering from pathologies with the musculoskeletal system (knee problems, wearing prostheses, etc.).
Interview with patients
The expert visits took place from June 25 to 28. “The team was made up of several people including a doctor, a quality risk management director, a digital expert specializing in cyber harassment,” relates Sylvain Boussemaere, interim director of the hospital center since May 2023.
These professionals spoke with governance to understand how the structure was managed. The medication circuit and event management were discussed. “Our teams also had to produce the files of three patients, and explain their journey, from reception to discharge, in order to verify the care,” continues the manager.

These experts interviewed several patients, the list of which had been drawn up by the Saint-Louis staff according to the imposed criteria. They also observed the displays put in place, compliance with the charters, and the practices established in the establishment.
Ultimately, the center obtained an objective achievement score of 96.6%. A result from three noted sections: patient objectives are achieved at 98%, those of professionals at 97%, while those of the establishment are achieved at 95%. “Only 20% of public and private establishments benefit from high quality care certification,” Sylvain Boussemaere would like to point out.
No more vacancies
This sesame will allow the hospital center to recover funds via the quality financial incentive system. “This money will make it possible to pay staff while our teams spend the day in meetings, to further renew specific equipment, to give a bonus for carpooling in order to think about sustainable development…”, lists the interim director.
Concerning patients, who also enjoy proximity, this certification should motivate them to choose Ax-les-Thermes for their rehabilitation. “When we have a good reputation, it makes admissions easier. I think it’s word of mouth that works, people won’t go and check if we have a mention or not,” says the manager.
As for staff, certification represents a guarantee of good working conditions. “In 2023, I had a lot of vacant positions. Now, I have almost none. There is absenteeism in my center, but linked to serious pathologies. And as we are a small center, the lack of a few people weighs right away”.
A small center but “which knows how to be one of the best in the region”, as Sylvain Boussemaere recalls.
