The head of French diplomacy Jean-Noël Barrot expressed “doubts” on Sunday about Algiers' desire to respect the road map for Franco-Algerian bilateral relations. He also repeated his concerns about the case of writer Boualem Sansal, detained in Algeria since mid-November for endangering state security.

The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, expressed doubts, Sunday January 5, during an interview on private radio RTL, about Algiers' desire to respect the road map of Franco-Algerian bilateral relations .

“In 2022 (…) we wrote a roadmap (…), we want to do this [qu’elle] can be followed,” he said.

and Algiers found the path to a warming of their relations during a trip by President Emmanuel Macron to Algeria in August 2022.

The two heads of state had signed with great fanfare a joint declaration paving the way in particular for a relaxation of the visa regime granted to Algeria in exchange for increased cooperation from Algiers in the fight against illegal immigration.
