Strange ones very special containers have appeared in recent days in the center of the town from La Chaize-le-Vicomte. These big boxes are in fact bin shelters. They are intended for collection of bio-waste for the residents who do not have a composter in their garden, nor other possibilities to install them elsewhere.

Experimentation for six months

Two containers were therefore installed, one on Place Saint-Jean, the other on Rue du Souvenir, in front of the municipal technical center, referring to the obligation to sort organic waste in accordance with the Agec law of January 1, 2024.

» The device is tested until June 15, 2025 and is intended for around 70 households in the town center “, indicates Alexandra Gaborieau, vice-president of La Roche-sur-Yon Agglomération, in charge of waste management. All these families received a letter informing them of this system deployed for them. To use them, they must collect a name badge at the town hall.

What waste is accepted?

These bins are designed to receive all kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings, leftover meals, or even kitchen towels, paper tissues, but also leaves or herbs from the garden. But be careful, no meat waste or cat litter.

These container shelters are hermetically closed and therefore cannot be colonized by rodents or other pests.

It is simple to use. » The user must badge their card obtained at the town hall. Opening becomes possible with a pedal. After emptying the organic waste bucket, releasing the pedal causes the bin cover to close. It is available 24 hours a day and a truck comes to empty it once a week,” explains Cédric de Linage, municipal councilor responsible for energy transition.
