In the town of Ligny-en-Barrois (Meuse), Saturday January 4 in the middle of the evening, a man was the victim of several stab wounds in a local hotel, reports L'Est Républicain. The suspect in this attack, an individual in his forties, was placed in pre-trial detention this Monday afternoon after his indictment for assassination attempt.
Drunk and under the influence of drugs
The incident took place in the presence of the ex-partner of the alleged attacker, as well as her new companion, and a 5-year-old child.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the attacker, visibly drunk and under the influence of hard drugs, went to the hotel room where the couple was staying, before violently attacking the man with a knife.
The victim, injured, was treated urgently and his vital prognosis was serious for a while. However, after treatment at Nancy hospital, his condition appears to have stabilized.
Placed in pre-trial detention
The suspect then fled, but delivered a few hours later to law enforcement. During the search of his home, the gendarmes allegedly found the knife used in the attack.
The man, who had until now only been known for traffic offences, was placed in police custody and appeared before the judge of freedoms and detention, who decided to keep him in pre-trial detention.
A judicial investigation was opened to try to clarify the exact circumstances of the attack. If the assassination attempt is successful, the accused faces life imprisonment.
