the essential
Since January 1, all two-wheelers registered between 2017 and 2019 must have passed a technical inspection. The measure, put in place since April, still arouses the anger of the FFMC.

This is a subject that has greatly aroused the anger of bikers. In April, technical inspection became compulsory in for two-wheelers registered before 2017. Since April 1is January, the measure extends to vehicles registered between 2017 and 2019. The latter must now have passed the technical examination to continue driving, under penalty of a fixed fine of €135. A change that still does not pass for the Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) of Lot-et-Garone.

“We are still against and call for a boycott of technical inspections,” says Léopold Talou, president of the FFMC of 47. According to him, this new measure “serves no purpose”, except “forcing people to pay”. “At the beginning, we were told that the technical inspection would cost between €40 and €50. In reality, it's closer to €75. Being the owner of four motorcycles, it's starting to cost, especially since I maintain them correctly.” The Federation of Angry Bikers of Lot-et-Garonne is organizing a meeting next Wednesday January 8, in particular to ask the police “to show flexibility”. Future actions could also be organized, like the one that took place in February in front of the prefecture in , just before the regulations were put in place.

Useful according to technical inspection centers

If the measure still does not pass by the FFMC, it is rather well seen by the technical inspection centers. “The vehicles are often less clean than the owners think,” says an Autosur employee. Some realize when they come that they have a brake, lighting, signaling or tire problem that they do not know. hadn't noticed.” If “most motorcyclists generally take care of their vehicles”, the regulations are, according to him, particularly useful for mopeds and scooters, which are not “always well maintained”. Non-maintenance which can “represent a risk for drivers.”

Welcomed by associations fighting for air quality and the preservation of the environment, the measure also aims to reduce the carbon impact of two-wheelers, because “certain vehicles undergo modifications, particularly at the level of the exhaust”, recalls the Autosur employee.

A regulation which is therefore still not unanimous, and to which the FFMC is not about to give in.

As a reminder, the technical inspection must be passed every three years. Please note that collector's motorcycles registered before 1960 and competition motorcycles are not affected.
