The Chinese steel group « Jingye Group » intends to play a central role in the development of the colossal Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, an initiative aimed at linking West Africa to Morocco and Europe. According to Zhang Yuanyuan, deputy director of Jingye’s international marketing department, the company aims to provide high-quality steel products essential to the construction of this major energy infrastructure.

With this in mind, Jingye Group plans to mobilize its expertise via its British subsidiary, Jingye British Steel, acquired in 2020. This entity, known for its participation in prestigious international projects such as the Beijing Daxing airport and the Crossrail railway project in the United Kingdom, will offer solutions adapted to the technical challenges of this transcontinental gas pipeline.
With an estimated value of 26 billion dollarsthe project enjoys the support of major international financial institutions, including the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund. It constitutes a major lever for the energy and economic development of West Africa, facilitating access to natural gas for the coastal countries between Nigeria and Morocco. In addition, it will strengthen energy connections between Africa and Europe, while boosting investments in sustainable infrastructure.
Significant regional benefits:
The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) plans to launch calls for tenders in 2025 for segments of the gas pipeline covering the 1,672 kilometers crossing Morocco. The first phase of the project will include Morocco, Mauritania and Senegalthus marking the start of the realization of this ambitious infrastructure.
